A short stop in Houston

I was in Houston eating a nice sushi lunch with a customer and just happened to glance out the restaurant window. I noticed what appeared to be two blind men walking together — one was using his handicap walking cane tapping back and forth in front of him. The other guy also had a walking cane, but wasn’t using it (he was just walking very closely to the man in front of him). I didn’t think anything of it at the time and just continued on with our lunch conversation…

About 2 minutes later I noticed they were now across the street in the distance and walking away from us on a large open sidewalk area. I was pretty impressed how they were able to make their way around by themselves. As we were both watching them I jokingly commented “Do you realize that we’re actually watching the blind leading the blind?”. At that precise moment we couldn’t believe what we witnessed — the two men walked directly into a 3-foot high brick wall! Neither appeared injured, but they both looked pretty surprised (I’m not sure why they didn’t detect the wall with the walking cane). We both tried to be politically correct and not crack any jokes, but we couldn’t believe what we just saw! Immediately after the crash both men started using their canes and continued on their way. Unbelievable!!

This “little” guy was caught crawling around the office. About 1.5 inches in size! Looked like something from Madagascar (or Fear Factor).

Finally made it to Austin, Texas. My flight out of Newark was held up due to the weather and I got to Dallas late — missed my flight! Luckily, flights from Dallas to Austin run frequently, so I managed to get on another flight about an hour later.

Other than the missed flight and a female captain on one of the segments (a first for me), my travel was uneventful. I did manage to get a first class upgrade for both segments, so that was nice (I think this was the first time I got an upgrade on American). Hopefully I can get an upgrade on my flight from Houston to Newark (on Continental).

As for Austin’s slogan? Where else can you experience live music in the airport! Gotta love it.
